Christian Freedom

Christian Freedom

Christian freedom was never meant to lead to self indulgence.

Christian freedom is meant to lead to inner self-control.

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh rather, serve one another humbly in love.Galatians 5:13

  •  This freedom leads to servant-like living that thinks of others above ourselves.

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. – 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

  • This is serving according to the will of God.

“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. – 1 Corinthians 10:23

True freedom is not the freedom to do as we please.

To run wild and unrestrained is its own form of slavery and the worst kind.

True freedom is the capacity to do as we ought by the grace and power of God.

They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.” – 2 Peter 2:19.

True freedom means the responsibility to make right choices…

  • which starts by resting in God’s grace and supply,
  • to become Christ-like in our behavior.

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God— 1 Corinthians 10:31-32

A restrained freedom is just like a train.  When it is restrained by the tracks on which it was designed to operate, it works well.
